Lillehammer (1) 2005/6

The World Cup bandwagon rolled into Norway for its next stop on the Nordic Opening, but to due to adverse conditions Lillehammer was the venue rather than Trondheim.

And the former Olympic host offered up the third different winner so far in the season. Andreas Widhoelzl jumped to his first World Cup victory in 3 years, edging out surprise packet Henning Stensrud courtesy of his better marks from the judges. For the Norwegian it was the first time on a World Cup podium in his 150th start, on the very hill his career at this level had begun 9 years earlier.

Germany's Michael Uhrmann recorded the longest jump of the day (143.0m) to climb up from 15th after the first round to the bottom step of the podium.

The win propels Widhoelzl up to third in the overall World Cup standings just 4 points behind joint leaders Jakub Janda and Andreas Kuettel.

Kuusamo (2) 2005/6

Jakub Janda soared to a first round jump of 146.0m to set up his second World Cup victory. The 27 year-old Czech put in a safe jump of just under 130m to seal his win with 14 points to spare over his nearest rival.

That nearest rival was Japan's Takanobu Okabe. He must have thought his first round effort of 137.5m was going to put him in contention to record his first individual win in seven seasons.

The second round was the domain of the Norwegians as both Roar Ljoekelsoey and Bjorn Einar Romoeren took large jumps up the standings with impressive jumps the second time of asking. For Romoeren it was enough to earn him the last spot on the podium.

The winner of the first event Andreas Kuettel came in 5th, and reigning champ Janne Ahonen languished in 11th.

Oops!!

Is it really a month since I set this thing up?!

Unfortunately since then real life has done its usual trick of creeping up and rendering all plans meaningless.

The amount of time I have had to devote to gaming (playing, developing and reporting) has been cut down a bit and most of the time I have had I have used on getting some more sets ready for 'Final Score'. These will include Euro 2008, Africa Cup of Nations 2006 and 2008, along with the Champions League, Premier League, La Liga and Serie A for the 2006/7 season.

All of this should be available by the end of this month from RJH Games.

I will then turn my attention to the Ski Jumping again, both in getting the last two seasons of World Cups card, and in posting results from my 2005/6 replay.

Sorry for the inactivity on here, but I thought I would let people know I am still here and this will be a regularly updated blog by the end of the summer at the latest.

Kuusamo (1) 2005/6

Andreas Kuettel of Switzerland beats out two World Cup champions in Adam Malysz and Janne Ahonen to win his first ever World Cup event in the season opener in Kuusamo, Finland.

The 26 year-old recorded jumps of 139.5 metres and 135.0 metres to win the event by nearly 13 points from current champion Ahonen.

Consistency was the key as everyone tried to work off the summer rust, and some managed it better than most. Some of those who couldn't manage it included Michael Uhrmann of Germany, who having jumped only half a metre less than Kuettel in the first round could only muster 115.5 metres in the second round (the worst of the round), plummeting him down to 14th place. Going the other way were Lars Bystoel and Harri Olli. Both soared over 140 metres in the second round after poor first round efforts under 130 metres.

Ski Jumping

Well, to start things off on the RJH Games blog I am going to let rip with a replay using a game of our own design. K-Point is a replay game of ski jumping using two rolls of three dice to determine jump distance and judges scores for each jumper.

I am going to be replaying the 2005-6 World Cup season as it is the only one released so far. Don't worry though, 2006-7 and 2007-8 are both in the pipeline and will be released in the winter (when people might be more in tune with ski-jumping).

The first event of the season is from Kuusamo, Finland.
